This old farmyard had it all, large farmhouse with stone foundation, outbuildings and barn. The house was the most interesting with few items left behind and the basement was stacked with gems like old wood crates, antique fire extinguisher globe and many other things. Curtains, wallpaper and paint were all still in good condition. The one item that stood out was a mallet that said "wife tamer" on it, hence the name.

CFB Rivers Military base was also known as HOo-Za-We-Kwun Centre and Hangar Farms. It was based in Manitoba opening in 1942 and closed in 1971. Today it is owned by a farmer, most buildings are demolished or secured
Since 1968 the big green "tipple" has been the dominating feature of downtown Coleman's main street and skyline. For close to 20 years it was the generator of Coleman's and Crowsnest Pass's wealth. For the past twenty years, however, its only role has been to stand silently watching as Main Street Coleman slipped into depression. No longer serving the role for which it was created the tipple's decline paralleled that of main street. The bright green façade faded. Parts no longer protected from the elements began to rust. Pieces fell or were blown off the structure. Yet still it stands, an inescapable remnant of more prosperous times, an icon of Coleman's past glory.
Is finding an abandoned house with a turret in Saskatchewan on your bucket list? It was on mine.
I grew up dreaming of living in a house with a turret and so far it hasn't happened. I had this place marked on my map as "large home looks interesting" not sure what to expect. Driving down the lane and coming around the corner it was shocking to see a house this large, with a turret in rural Saskatchewan. At first, it wasn't clear of its status but upon closer inspection (ie// open doors) it was abandoned. The outside was littered with mountains of junk and so was the inside. To put it nicely, the inside was definitely a hoarding situation or a house turned garbage dump. The structure itself likely could have been saved before the roof started to leak but it's in rough shape. A beautiful house, sad to see it in this condition. Update 2021 - this property has someone living on it, not sure if in a camper or the house? This very small ghost town seems like it may have been quite the town in its day. All the streets are obvious through lots of overgrowth, many houses remain but most are overgrown or fallen in. There is no elevator, but evidence of an elevator remains. The rail line is still visible. There is one resident remaining and a large abandoned business that can be seen on main street.
Not much is known about this little ghost town. Fort San Sanatorium, also known as the Echo Valley Conference Center, HMCS Qu'Appelle Cadet Summer Training Center and Saskatchewan Summer School of the Arts was a beautiful historic building with a rich history.
Each small town in Saskatchewan always has its own bar and hotel. Most small-town hotels either use the bar only, the bar and one floor of rooms (board up the rest), or they are closed. I was able to document the building thoroughly.
On my first visit it was obvious there was water damage to the building as well as a lack of residents in the town. This is probably why this building was closed. The building was rough, the hotel was not to bad but the bar had a collapsed roof and major water damage and mold throughout. It had one main hallway with doors for all the rooms on either side. The main level was the bar, check in counter and living area for the owner which included kitchen, living room + bedroom. I returned for a final visit and the bar was collapsing in on itself and the hotel portion had become quite unsafe. I have been told by others that it was demolished in 2015. If you love abandoned houses or buildings made of stone, then you will love this house!
The Parker house is a beautiful abandoned two storey home in Saskatchewan. It is a craftsman style inspired home built by two brothers from Ontario. Each brother had a different vision for the home so they combined their ideas to create a very unique home. One brother did two of the exterior walls and the fireplace in carefully cut and shaped stones while the other brother did the remaining exterior walls in rough unshaped stones. All the stones were collected from fields nearby. The home features a beautiful stone fireplace and gorgeous wood trim, on a beautiful property surrounded by trees. Everyone loves a good multi-storey small town hotel right? Most small-town hotels are either gone or they are using the main floor for the bar and maybe renting out a few rooms. The upper floors of rooms are usually boarded up and the chances of seeing them is not very high. We have photographed multiple motels but never a hotel. This was exciting!
