A small but unique one room schoolhouse in the village of Findlater, Saskatchewan. Abandoned for years it has been purchased and may some day be restored...we hope.
The multi classroom school in the ghost town of Bridgeford, Saskatchewan is a unique one. It has so much potential and looks like someone started gutting it for restoration but stopped. It now sits alone at the end of the street getting destroyed by the elements. Still, a very neat school we were able to see the interior of back in 2011.
A small schoolhouse in the ghost town of Greenan, Saskatchewan. Looks like it was converted to a community hall as many are.
Ernfold school can be seen from the transcanada highway. This beautiful 1 1/2 storey red brick multi room school is also a Heritage Site! Although it may always have a "private property" sign at the entrance, you can still get a good view.
Also known as: Ernfold School , Ernfold Baptist Church
Built in 1919, listed as a Municipal Heritage Property in 2006
The heritage value of Ernfold School lies in its association with the provision of education in the area. Built to serve the growing population, the building was not just a school but a place for community dances, socials and other celebrations. It served as a school until 1972 and was then used by the Baptist Church until 1989. Located on a rise of land next to the entrance road, its the oldest building in the community and remains a major landmark.
Heritage value also lies in the Georgian Revival-inspired architecture. Constructed in 1919, the school is characteristic of the larger educational buildings of the period, with a symmetrical, rectangular layout, side wings and hip roof, and a central entrance and bell tower. The building has a red brick veneer and large window walls which allow light into the former classrooms.
