Ghost Town of West Bend, Saskatchewan

Type: Railway Siding
 Established: 1944
Last known status: Dieing Town, some buildings demolished
Ukrainian settlers came to the West Bend district around 1903 – 1905 looking for land to farm. The general store was built in 1929 and six years later the town had a railway station, three general stores, two blacksmiths, a restaurant, a community hall, a lumber yard, a post office, three elevators, and four machinery agents.

West Bend became a village in 1944 and the school was built in 1946. It wasn't until the late 1970s that's the town was being to decline. Its population was just 25 in 1980 and the stores were gone or closed by 1981. In 1982 the last train stopped in West Bend and the following year the tracks were removed.

Most people visit the town because they are wanting to visit a ghost town but the area is also known for a very beautiful Ukrainian church. Nearby the town is the Ukrainian Catholic, Model Farm Church, the Patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was built in 1909 just east of the West Bend and was rebuilt in 1933.
